Rebecca's designs are primarily distinguished by the use of powder glass beads, reflecting a tradition that dates back to the 16th century. Powder glass beads are typically created by grounding colored recycled glass into a fine powder, pouring the powder into clay moulds, and then baking the powder in outdoor wood-fired ovens.
Additional techniques are used to create more elaborate designs. Beads are then washed and polished, and as a result, no two beads are identical. Bead making continues to be a dynamic and flourishing art form in Ghana, and the wearing of beads is a time honored means of conveying artistic expression, status, and spirituality.
Rebecca also uses bottle glass, wood, brass, silver, and semi- precious stones to create specialized pieces, so you'll rarely find duplicates. If you happen to find what appears to be a duplicate, look closely and you'll surely notice a style variation. Take comfort in knowing that your selected piece is owned solely by you!
